Lead Android Engineer - Augmented Reality

We are looking for a Lead Android Engineer to join a client that is pushing the limits when it comes to technology. A green-field project using Augmented Reality and indoor mapping to create a first-class customer experience. A small team currently they have managed to secure a large piece of funding and partnered with a major UK retail brand.

The future of the product will involve further RnD and a much deeper dive into the world of wearables. Using Augmented Reality to improve experiences and efficiencies across countless industries. Shopping centers, major stores, airports and much more. There is currently interest from businesses on a global scale with talks already in progress in Australia, America and of course their first product launch here in the UK.

They are a small but rapidly growing, early-stage start-up supported by some of the most prominent investors in technology and retail. As a team they have already built the most popular project for mobile Augmented Reality 4k+ stars on Github, enabling any developer to build world scale AR applications. Empowering every team member to take ownership of their work. They are also very open to each team member managing their own flexible work schedule.

 

The role is for a Lead Android Engineer, someone that is not a career coder and can show examples of personal projects and experiments. They are not following anyone’s path as the work has never been done before. Discovery and pioneering at the heart of the business. As the first android engineer in the team, it will fall upon you to help create a strong android team with interviews and hiring whilst focusing a lot of time on brining their android offering to the level of the iOS product.

A flexible working pattern with one day in the office. Annual budget for training and conferences, £500 home office budget, stock options and a great team to work with. This is an amazing opportunity for any engineer that would like to leave a mark, build something that has not been seen before and grow with the company.

What your first 6 months would look like:

  • Build a best in class android team
  • Break ground on a green-field Android implementation of their iOS app
  • Prototyping and integration of a range of technologies and new features
  • Create a presence on the Google Play console with a view to launch a white labelled app.

Technologies you should be comfortable with:

  • Excellent Kotlin with a familiarity on Java
  • Comfortable writing Unit and UI tests (Junit4/5 and Espresso)
  • Good understanding of Android best practices and design guidelines
  • Comfortable with algorithms, working with complex data structures and RnD work

Amazing if you have some experience with ARCore, OpenGL, 3D technologies or location-based technologies.
