Front End Developer

SNOMED International is a global, non-profit organisation that owns, administers and develops SNOMED CT, a healthcare terminology product.

The Front End Developer is responsible for analysing business requirements and developing solutions related to the user interface of SNOMED Internationals tools and products. This position is responsible for full life-cycle project management and collaboration within SNOMED Internationals technical unit in the delivery of such projects especially as they relate to the creation of integrated front-end interfaces for varying back-end solutions



Accountable to the Technical Services Executive Lead for:

  • Development of production quality front end code
  • Proactive input into the design of any front end solutions
  • The evolution of our front-end development principles and best practices 


  • Analyse business requirements in order to develop front-end technical solutions that allow users to effectively access and interact with SNOMED International tools and products, providing an integrated interface to various back-end solutions, consistent with SNOMED International architectural principles;
  • Develop front end components within technical services projects on the SNOMED International technology roadmap and consistent with agreed upon our approaches and using our collaboration and development tools;
  • Regularly communicate with members of the team to ensure that projects are developed, tested, and deployed to high standard;
  • Advise SNOMED International staff on different front end/interface solutions ensuring that feedback on the quality of the solutions is captured and that your development process is open, transparent, and accessible to all;


The following skills are expected as a minimum:

More than 3 years coding experience;

  • Significant demonstrable project experience using front end technologies, including JavaScript and specific frameworks with detailed knowledge of either Ember.js or Angular;
  • Experience of integrating front end development with various back end technologies
  • Above average communication skills, and the ability to be productive when working remotely;
  • Strong Problem Solving skills with the ability to develop workaround scenarios
  • Bachelors in computer science, or a demonstrably equivalent formal theoretical grounding in computer science.

The following skills would be beneficial:

  • Experience using ontologies and description logics
  • SQL in MySQL or other open source RDBMS environment;



The successful candidates must be available to work full time; by this we mean there would be an expectation from the SNOMED International, that no other work, paid or otherwise, will be entered into without the express permission of the CEO. 

  • Because of the international nature of the work, from time to time there may be a requirement to attend teleconferences outside usual working hours.
  • The successful candidates must be prepared to work flexibly in order to communicate regularly with the Technical Services group which is primarily based in the United Kingdom. 



SNOMED International has a distributed international work force, this role will work primarily via Internet from the employee's own home office. The position is likely to require regular travel to London to meet with the rest of the Technical Services group. They may also be some international travel to meet with other SNOMED International staff, attend SNOMED International meetings and participate in relevant conferences
